Category of Mountain Medicine Instructor Registration

This page explains the category of registration for Mountain Medicine Instructors. The list below correlates to the category listed against the mountain medicine instructor on the 'find an Instructor page'. Based on the category each instructor holds, the named instructor is able to facilitate the following HSE directives.

Category of Registration

Examiner

Able to examine up to and including a full ( 24 hour ) HSE registered “First Aid AT Work” Course.
Examiners must meet ( as a minimum ) the requirements currently stipulated by the HSE for a FAAW Examiner.

Instructor Level One

Able to carry out one or two day courses including the elements required to comply with the HSE “Appointed Person” syllabus. ( +plus: additional elements subject to appropriate experience and qualifications e.g. “Outdoor Safety” ) .

Able to act as Examiner.

Instructor Level Two

As Level One + able to conduct a full ( 24 hour ) HSE registered “First Aid at Work” Course and FAAW “refresher” courses.

Senior Instructor Level

Minimum 10 years FAAW ( or appropriate ) Experience.
As Level two + able to assist the Director of Training to train and assess Instructors.


Instructors / Examiners appointments are maintained solely at the discretion of the Director of Training and subject to requirements as dictated by him. Instructors/Examiners must accept that their continued appointed is also subject to their application of the highest of professional standards.
